------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Description:

2025 is Year of the Snake. Snakes shed their skin as they grow, thus Eastern traditions consider it a year for growth, change, and rebirth. Since snakes live relatively long and can go without food for long periods, they are also considered a symbol of longevity, resilience, and great fortune.

Patanjali, considered the author of the Yoga Sutras, is portrayed in legend as half man, half snake. This is due to his ability to see beyond illusions and lead humans to transcendence.

We will celebrate the beginning of 2025 with a free yoga class. Light refreshments will be available after class. For those who wish to stay to set their New Year's intention afterwards, there is a yoga nidra meditation session starting at 7:30pm, also free of charge.

This class is gentle yet effective, focusing on strength, flexibility, and balance simultaneously. Class begins with a lecture, followed by yogasana (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), and mental focus techniques. Beginners, persons with physical limitations and seniors are welcome to join us.

Please dress comfortably and bring a mat if you have one (a limited number of loaners are available), a water bottle, and any props as needed. Please arrive a few minutes early so that you may quietly settle in before beginning your practice.

*Raja yoga (or the royal or king's path to union), is considered the highest path of yoga and a direct path to enlightenment. It is a comprehensive style that includes breathing exercises, mental training, study of yogic philosophy, and meditation, with Yoga Sutras of Patanjali as its foundational text.
